What are the high-leverage protocols and practices? (Collective Learning Overview)

Collective learning will build a firm understanding and usage of the following key protocols.

Unit/Module Internalization

Step-by-step processes for understanding each module before teaching include what students will be learning, how students will be assessed, and the high-level learning arc.

Student Work Analysis

Step-by-step processes for analyzing student work by understanding student tasks and exemplar responses, identifying trends in actual student work, and identifying targeted action steps to support students in upcoming lessons.

Lesson Internalization

A step-by-step process for understanding each lesson prior to teaching, including what students will be learning, how students will be assessed, and how teachers can support all learners in meeting the rigor of the instructional materials.

Lesson Rehearsal

Facilitated process for practicing a key learning moment in an upcoming lesson by delivering that part of the lesson as if in front of students to ensure the “first teach” is the “best teach.”

What are Communities of Practice (CoPs)?

Communities of Practice (CoPs) will discuss the application of collective learning and engage in problems of practice to tackle implementation challenges. Collaboration in cohorts allows participants to troubleshoot common problems, support each other, and develop a community centered around HQIM implementation and student growth. These live sessions will be held on scheduled dates/times via Zoom by CRIMSI facilitators and are a required part of CRIMSI pilot participation. Participants are assigned a cohort to place them in small groups of 10-15 educators piloting the same HQIM in a similar school system.

During the school year, teachers attend four Community of Practice (CoP) sessions, coaches attend six CoP sessions, and instructional school leaders attend three CoP sessions. Participants access the Zoom room for their scheduled sessions through their TEALearn course.

Please note that CoP Zoom calls have the waiting room feature enabled. Facilitators will only admit participants to a CoP during the first fifteen minutes of a CoP session. Participants cannot join the session after that window and must attend a make-up session.

Participants must complete an entire learning cycle to be eligible for the stipend portion associated with the cycle. Each learning cycle includes a Community of Practice (CoP) session and the completion of an asynchronous module in TEALearn. Instructional school leaders’ attendance at four Progress Monitoring sessions is an additional requirement of that role’s learning cycles.
