What do leaders (the Initiative Lead and School Leaders) learn during the Pre-Implementation phase of the pilot?
The CRIMSI Leader Pre-Implementation Series provides district leaders, known as the Initiative Lead, and campus leaders, known as School Leaders, professional development in the best practices for HQIM Implementation. This learning series also equips leaders with the tools to plan, prepare, and implement systems and campus-level change management.
Throughout the Pre-Implementation Series, leaders and their Implementation Team will utilize the Pre-Implementation Plan, a digital tool with specific action items and guiding questions, to create the conditions necessary for teachers and coaches to implement HQIM with fidelity.
The following sessions comprise the Pre-Implementation Learning Series:
Kick-off Session – Understanding the Conditions for Success
Leaders will:
- Understand the requirements and purpose of piloting high-quality instructional materials through CRIMSI.
- Understand the purpose of the pilot experience and the requirements/supports associated with roles within the pilot: leaders, coaches, and teachers.
- Understand the Assurances and pilot requirements (registration and initial first steps for getting registered for PL and access to materials).
- Describe the characteristics of High-Quality Instructional Materials (HQIM) and identify the content Research-Based Instructional Strategies (RBIS) embedded within the TEKS and HQIM.
Orientation Session – Managing Strategically
Leaders will examine CRIMSI best practices for launching HQIM implementation.
- Explore the change management and communication best practices for launching HQIM implementation.
- Examine the CRIMSI requirements and best practices for launching HQIM implementation.
- Create system-level conditions that streamline materials access and distribution.
- Analyze pacing considerations and impact on current practices.
- Create system-level conditions that support coherent implementation.
- Develop an aligned assessment system that supports strong implementation.
HQIM Product Introduction (School Leaders Only)
School Leaders will engage in HQIM product-specific coach or teacher sessions to learn about the features and the practices that support the implementation of their campus-specific HQIM product.
Onboarding Session 1 – Stakeholder Investment
Leaders will consider strategies for managing high levels of stakeholder engagement and participation along with planning for consistent observations of implementation integrity through the use of the vision walks tool.
- Investigate methods for engaging and investing stakeholders throughout HQIM implementation.
- Examine leadership actions and strategies for supporting strong participant investment in pilot requirements and expectations.
- Plan for effective, systemic monitoring and support through consistent vision walk observations.
Onboarding Session 2 – Teacher Practice
Leaders will examine instructional and collaborative practices that support strong HQIM implementation.
- Explore collaborative practices that support HQIM implementation for coaches and teachers (internalization and lesson rehearsal).
- Evaluate current systems for curriculum-embedded professional learning.
- Implement a systemic approach to ensuring effective and strong collaborative practices.
Onboarding Session 3 – Student Outcomes
Leaders will understand the key components of an aligned assessment strategy that supports HQIM implementation.
- Examine how to utilize curriculum-embedded assessments to measure effectiveness and support teacher reflection and improvement.
- Understand best practices associated with regular use of the Student Work Analysis Protocol (SWAP).
- Plan for progress monitoring in continuous improvement cycles to support implementation success.
