What is the scope and sequence for Teacher/Coach Onboarding?

Teachers and coaches will attend a sequence of onboarding training, including an orientation, product introduction, and four onboarding modules. All are outlined in the following sections.

Orientation Objectives

To ensure teachers and coaches have a strong start to the CRIMSI pilot and a positive experience as pilot participants, a thorough orientation experience is necessary.

  • Live virtual orientations to build excitement around the CRIMSI program and provide a thorough overview of program requirements.
  • All orientation materials clarify pilot and participant expectations, including specific tutorials on submitting assignments and unit assessment data.
  • Orientation materials cover all aspects of the CRIMSI program and provide a thorough summary of the implementation supports, the scope and sequence of collective learning, and other resources participants can interact with throughout the year.

Product Introduction Objectives

Participants learn about the features of an HQIM and the practices that support the implementation of the product by attending a product-specific onboarding session.

Onboarding Objectives

Participants will attend four 60-minute onboarding sessions and complete 30 minutes of post-work per session in TEALearn modules.

  • Onboarding Module 1: HQIM Impact – Participants will describe the shifts in planning, instruction, and learning environment when implementing HQIM. Teachers will be able to:
    • Identify competencies aligned with best practices of HQIM implementation.
    • Explain how their work in the pilot will develop these competencies and support best practices with HQIM implementation.
  • Onboarding Module 2: Unit/Module Internalization – Participants will be able to internalize a unit/module effectively. Teachers and coaches will be able to:
    • Complete the unit/module internalization protocol.
  • Onboarding Module 3: Lesson Internalization – Participants will be able to understand the lesson internalization process. Teachers and coaches will be able to:
    • Describe the student impact of each stage/step of lesson internalization protocol.
    • Explain the importance of lesson internalization in supporting the implementation of HQIM.
    • Understand how to internalize a lesson for effective delivery and to meet the needs of all students.
    • Identify how embedded supports provide scaffolds and extensions to give all students equitable access to high-quality instruction.
  • Onboarding Module 4: Deeper Dive into Product – Participants will be able to understand the components and complexities of their HQIM product. Teachers and coaches will be able to:
    • Identify and describe core components of a lesson within the product to name best practices for preparing and delivering lessons.
    • Practice preparing and delivering lesson components to improve lesson internalization and rehearsal delivery.

Districts will notify teachers of the selected onboarding delivery method.

Participants joining the pilot in or after July will only have the asynchronous option unless their district facilitates live orientation after that date. LASO Decision 1B districts must have coaches redeliver the content on campus in this trainer-of-trainer pilot model; teachers do not receive any live training from the CRIMSI pilot through CRIMSI Local Implementation.
